The Demand of 4 Main Industries in 2005
Year 2005: The Demand of 4 Main Industries

Electricity, Construction materials, Steel & Chemical –
Bring Out the Growth of Coal Industry

In 2005, the increasing demand of 4 main industries will keep leading the growth of coal industry towards the top of prosperity.

Electrical coal – It is estimated that the domestic electricity consumption will reach 2425 billion kwh in 2005, with an increase of 260 billion kwh in general (around 12%), of which the capacity of coal-fire power will reach 2186.1 billion kwh. The national electricity consumption will reach 2668 billion kwh in 2006, with a 10% growth in general of which the coal-fire power will reach 2494.8 billion kwh. The demand of electrical coal in 2005 is 1.16 billion tons, with a rough increase of 175 million tons (around 17.6%) when comparing with 2004.

Coking coal – In 2005, the global demand on steel will over 6%, which is higher than the level of global economic growth. Especially in the developing countries like India and Brazil, their demands towards steel increase rapidly. It is estimated that the global demand on steel will be over 1.6 billion tons in the next year. In China, the amount of exporting steel will be larger than 2004. From China’s steel capacity, the growing demand of steel will be slow down for about 15% due to the slow down of the growth of automobile and property industry. The demand of steel will reach 305 million tons in the whole 2005. The demand of coal will reach 284 million tons in the same year, with an increase of 30 million tons in general (around 11.7%) which is lower than the growth in 2004.

Construction materials and Chemical Industry – Due to the growth of property industry has slow down, the boom of construction materials industry began to slacken from 2004. It is estimated that its growing rate will be obviously lower than 2004. In 2005, the coal demand in construction materials industry will increase about 5.5%, with the total demand of 327 million tons, which is 170 million tons more than 2004, slightly higher than the entire level of the industry. In the chemical industry, a high growth momentum will be kept in 2005. It is because the chemical fertilizer industry is affected by the national’s priority policy for the agricultural industry and the price hike of the agricultural products. It is estimated that the whole year’s coal demand will reach 9.56%, with the total demand of 112 million tons, which is about 10 million tons more than 2004.

It is estimated that the coal demand of the 4 main industries will account for 87% of the total usage of coal – the electricity accounts for 53.6%, the construction materials industry accounts for 15.1%, the steel sector accounts for 13.1 % and the chemical industry accounts for 5.2%. The total usage will reach 2.164 billion tons (including 80 million tons for export), which is 233 million tons (12%) more than 2004.
